For 25 years, The Villages Public Safety Department (VPSD) has been safeguarding our community with dedicated and compassionate Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Service personnel.
The Villages Public Safety Department (VPSD) is a premier, full-service, high-performance Fire and Emergency Medical Rescue agency. Our history of dedicated service dates back 25 years ago with just one small Fire Station and 12 Firefighters in 1999. Today we are one of the most respected, high-performing fire and emergency medical service providers in the State of Florida.
Our firefighters and staff believe in providing our residents with the absolute best and highest level of service. We provide Fire and Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency rescue services from all of our stations strategically placed throughout The Villages.
VPSD continues to grow as The Villages grows, providing a blanket of well-equipped, exceptionally well-trained, and highly professional and compassionate Fire and EMS protection for all residents, guest and visitors of The Villages.
VPSD is the proud home of the Local IAFF 4770.

In 2023, VPSD earned the second highest rating available from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). These ratings occur once every 5-years. VPSD received a Class 2/2Y rating, which indicates superior fire protection based on the comprehensive evaluation of the department’s apparatus, equipment, station locations, and water supply.
ISO ratings have a significant role in the underwriting process of insurance companies, as the rating information is utilized by most insurance companies to determine insurance policy and coverage information, including policy premiums, for personal or commercial property insurance.
